This is a recording of a plastic soda straw being pulled up and down through the lid on a plastic 32-oz. soft drink cup! I recorded it using a Logitech USB mic sitting here at my computer desk, about a half hour after polishing off the soft drink LOL! I happened to pull the straw out, and noticed the groaning noises it made as it scraped against the plastic lid. So I recorded it with Audacity. The deep pitch sounds are the straw being pulled out, and the high-pitched sounds are the straw being pushed back in. I separated those two distinct sounds, made 2 copies each, overlapped them, and used the Audacity "gverb" effect on 'em with the room size setting maxed out. Then I lowered the pitch of the low sound about three steps and put one copy of it in the center and panned the other hard left. Then I panned one copy of the high-pitched sound, also lowered a few steps, over hard right and boosted to about 18db. I then took another copy of the high-pitched sound, but this time RAISED it in pitch three or four steps (to make it scream), panned it hard left, and boosted it about the same amount. I wanted something that sounded like a cross between Godzilla and the monster in "Cloverfield." I think you'll agree that whatever it is, it sounds pretty angry!
